Forty-four-year-old Jeffrey Polnaja of Indonesia,
who is visiting the
world on a motorbike to convey the message for peace, is in Bangladesh
now.
Jeffrey,
who started his tour from Indonesia on April 23, arrived in Bangladesh
on September 20 as part of his expedition for peace campaign in 100
countries of five continents –– Asia, Africa, Europe, America and
Australia.
The journey will take about five years, the Indonesian
bike-rider told a press conference at the Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka
on Thursday.
‘I am here on my mission to disseminate the message
of peace through riding motorcycle. Peace is for everyone, rich and
poor,’ said Jeffery, nicknamed JJ, which stands for Jurig Jalanan or
phantom of the road.
Jeffery said he had to take preparations for
four years for the trip. ‘I talked to my family and friends about my
plan and got their help, and I received great support and sponsorship
from the Indonesian government and some companies to carry out the
journey.’
Before reaching Bangladesh, Jeffery passed through
Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and
China. His next course of travel is in India, Bhutan, Nepal and other
surrounding countries.
‘In this solo exploring, I ride BMW R 1150
GS adventure special edition, which is made in Germany with a special
design for long tour,’ said Jeffrey, who will visit Tangail, Sirajganj,
Mymensingh and Sylhet regions.
The second stage his journey will
start from North America and he will visit North and South America
before he flies to Australia for the final stage.
Since his first
long trip in 1978 from his hometown of Bandung to Bali, a journey of
about 3,500km, Jeffery has undertaken solo motorcycling expeditions all
around Indonesia, as well as other parts of Asia and the US.
Indonesian ambassador to Dhaka, Warmas Hasan Saputra, was present at the press conference.
